BBC Sherlock:

This show really needs no introduction, this is the innovative, intelligently-written TV show that re-kindled the nation’s (and the world’s) passion for the famous detective. A brilliant show starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Dr. John Watson. (This series is in progress(sort of) and will be updated when more episodes are aired.)

Elementary:

Controversial, modern and just a bit unusual, much like the great detective himself, this modernized version of Sherlock Holmes is set in New York where Holmes, a recovering drug addict, meets Watson(his sober companion). Starring Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Joan Watson. (This series is in progress and will be updated as more episodes are aired.)

Sherlock Holmes (2009):

An eccentric and slightly grubby portrayal of Holmes in this blockbuster, along with (possibly) the most long-suffering Watson ever seen on film. Starring Robert Downey Junior as Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law as Dr. John Watson.

Granada’s Sherlock Holmes

For many, this is the Sherlock Holmes adaptation. When one mentions Sherlock Holmes, there’s one name that really comes to mind, and that name is Jeremy Brett. Starring Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes and David Burke as Dr. John Watson (for the first two series) and later starring Edward Hardwicke as Dr. John Watson.

Russian Sherlock Holmes:

Another firm favourite among Holmesians, this Russian adaptation of the classic is often regarded to be the most accurate depiction of Holmes ever created. English subtitles. Starring Vasily Livanov as Sherlock Holmes and Vitaly Solomin as Dr. John Watson. (All credit for finding the links goes to SongofAges)

Sherlock Holmes(1954):

The first ever American adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, this black and white series boasts 39 half-hour episodes containing mostly original stories. Ronald Howard and Howard Marion Crawford bring a real sense of life to the characters of Holmes and Watson and the whole series is curiously fast-paced for a series as old as it is.

Basil Rathbone’s Sherlock Holmes:

If the name Jeremy Brett doesn’t spring to mind when you say Sherlock Holmes, then Basil Rathbone most certainly will. Basil Rathbone is regarded by many to be the ultimate Sherlock Holmes, and while Nigel Bruce’s portrayal of Watson does make the character a little bumbling, this early adaptation is still a favourite of many.

The Great Mouse Detective:

And what list could be complete without Disney’s own take on the classic? Based of of the children’s book by Eve Titus. If not the best-know adaptation, it is certainly the best-loved. Here we have Basil of Baker Street and Dr. Dawson battling the evil Ratigan.
